Plantain Flower Varai / வாழைப்பொத்தி வறை

Plantain Flower Varai is a healthy mix made of spices and plantain flower that can be eaten with rice for lunch. Plantain flowers contain antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin B6, and fiber.


Plantain Flower Varai

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Plantain Flower (வாழைப்பொத்தி)
  • Cooking Oil (எண்ணெய்)
  • ½ Medium White Onion (வெங்காயம்)
  • 2 Green Chili Pepper (மிளகாய்)
  • 3-5 Curry Leaves (கறிவேப்பிலை)
  • 2 Dried Red Chili Peppers (செத்தல் மிளகாய்)
  • ¼ cup Grated Coconut (தேங்காய்ப்பூ)
  • ¼ tsp Salt (உப்பு)
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric (மஞ்சள் தூள்)

Instructions
 

  • Wash the plantain flower and then cut into small pieces. Put the cut pieces in a bowl and cover it fully with water. Add a pinch of turmeric and salt and mix well. Then squeeze the water out of the cut flower. Then cover the flower again with only clean water and mix well. Then squeeze the water completely out of the cut flower.
  • Dice the onions and green chili peppers.
  • Cook the onions and curry leaves in a pan with a little bit of oil.
  • Add the green chili peppers once the onion turns a golden color. Mix well.
  • Once the green chili peppers are cooked, add 2 dried red chili peppers (broken into small pieces). Mix well.
  • Add the plantain flower and mix well.
  • Add salt and turmeric powder. Cover the pot with a lid and let it cook on low flame.
  • Add the grated coconut and let cook for about 5 minutes.
