Aracha (Ground) Sambal / அரைச்ச சம்பல்
Ground sambal is a coconut based, spicy sambal that can be made very quickly with a blender. It’s best enjoyed with thosai, idli, or vadai.
Aracha (Ground) Sambal
Ingredients
- ¼ Medium White Onion (வெங்காயம்)
- ¾ tsp Salt (உப்பு)
- 1 ¾ tsp Chili Powder(சிவப்பு மிளகாய்த்தூள்)
- 2 cups Grated Coconut (தேங்காய்ப்பூ) Freshly grated coconut will taste better than the frozen version
- 1.5 cups Water (தண்ணீர்)
- ¼ tsp Tamarind (புளி)
Instructions
- Slice onions
- Grind onion, water (about 2 tsp), salt, and chili powder in a blender. Make sure the onion is ground well.
- Add coconut and water to the blender. Grind well until a smooth paste is created.
- Add additional chili powder, salt, and water as needed for desired consistency and taste.
- Add tamarind juice for flavor and grind to mix well.
- For additional flavor, add the onion/dried red chili pepper/curry leaves/fennel seed/mustard seed mixture made for thosai (Refer to thosai recipe). Mix it with the sambal and serve.
