Rasam / இரசம்
Rasam is a spicy soup that can be eaten with rice or on its own. It’s great for cold days or when you’re feeling sick.

Equipment
- Ural (உரல்)/Mortar and Pestle
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup Coriander Seeds (மல்லி)
- 7 Dried Red Chili Peppers (செத்தல் மிளகாய்)
- 1 tsp Black Pepper (மிளகு)
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds (சின்னசீரகம்)
- ¼ Medium Red Onion (வெங்காயம்)
- 4 Garlic Cloves (பூண்டு)
- 3.5 cups Water (தண்ணீர்)
- 1 tsp Tamarind Concentrate (புளி)
- 1 tsp Salt (உப்பு)
- 5 Curry Leaves (கறிவேப்பிலை)
Instructions
- Add coriander seeds and dried red chili pepper to ural and grind well.
- Add black pepper and cumin seeds and grind well.
- Add sliced onions and garlic and grind slightly.
- Transfer mixture to a pot. Add water, tamarind concentrate, and salt. Cook on medium heat.
- Once mixture boils, add more tamarind concentrate or salt to taste. When done, add curry leaves and remove pot off stove.
